Footy Season Is Underway
It’s that time of the year again. This past Sunday the team held it’s first training session of the season, and with a big turnout that included some promising new players, 2011 looks to be another great year for the club.
There’s now a little under a month to go before the first PAFL game of the season. For anyone interested in playing this year, here’s our schedule for the upcoming month.
On Sunday, March 13, we will again be training at the field for Cleveland High School at SE Powell and 31st starting at 7:00pm. Like last week, we’ll be doing some warm ups and running on the track (all at your own pace), and then taking the field to practice some basic skills.
The following Sunday, March 20 at 4:00pm, we will be having a practice match at Sellwood Park. This is a great opportunity for new players to get a feel for what it’s like playing in a game in a less intense setting. This is also an opportunity for all players to display their skills in-game to the PAFL team coaches in advance of the next week’s PAFL draft.
On Thursday, March 24 at 6:00pm, we will be commencing our regular Thursday practices at Duniway Park. We will be meeting at the same time and place every following Thursday evening throughout the season.
Finally, players will get one last chance to impress the PAFL coaches at practice on Sunday, March 27 at 4:00pm at Sellwood Park. Throughout the season on weekends without a PAFL or Steelheads game we will be practicing at Sellwood Park at 4:00 on Sundays. After practice on the 27th, we will be heading over to the Buffalo Gap for the PAFL Draft. The first PAFL game is the following Sunday.
If you are thinking about trying aussie rules football but have never played before, come on out! This is the ideal time to get started, and we love having new faces show up. We will be focusing on all of the basic skills of the game, and it will be a great time for new players to get a feel for the sport. If you have any questions about playing footy with the Steelheads, contact our recruiting coordinators, Will Sandman and Peter Blundell, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always, you can see the club’s upcoming events on our calendar.
