On Saturday, June 25th, the Portland Steelheads AFC will be hosting the Stumptown Throwdown, a tournament that will feature the Steelheads, Seattle Grizzlies, and Golden Gate Roos in a contest for West Coast supremacy. This is the first time in two years that Portland will be defending their home field against visiting clubs. With the club having grown by leaps and bounds over the past two seasons, and given the quality of the visiting teams, the tournament is sure to feature some thrilling contests.
The Throwdown will take place at Northgate Park from 10:00am-6:30pm. Each team will face each other once, with a 4th game at the end of the day for anyone left wanting to play. Following the awards presentation, the festivities will continue at The Buffalo Gap starting at 7:00pm, where the visiting teams will be introduced to Portland’s many microbrews. The schedule for the day is:
10:00 – Teams and vendors arrive at Northgate Park
11:00-11:50 – Game 1: Seattle vs Golden Gate
12:30-1:20 – Game 2: Portland vs Seattle
2:00-2:50 – Game 3: Portland vs Golden Gate
3:30-4:20 – Game 4: All Comers Game
5:00 – Award Presentations at Northgate Park
7:00 – Celebrations commence at the Buffalo Gap
The forecast is for a beautiful, warm, sunny day, and it should be a great day for spectators to cheer on the hometown Steelheads as they take the field. The action on the field will be riveting no matter your level of familiarity with the sport. Concessions will be available at the field, and will benefit the club.
