PAFL Grand Final, Sunday 6/30 at 2:30pm
After playing 8 rounds of the regular season, the stage is set for the 2013 Portland Australian Football League Grand Final this Sunday, June 30th. It’s an early start at 2:30pm this weekend due to the special occasion, and so that everyone can come to On Deck afterwards.
In the curtain raiser, the Ospreys and the Cascades will face off in the Consolation Game. The Ospreys were narrowly knocked out of a Grand Final berth after losing their final two games by a combined 7 points, but they were contenders after a strong stretch of games in the middle of the season. Meanwhile the Cascades come into the game with the momentum after defeating the Brewers in Round 8. While the teams didn’t make the top two this season, they’ll both be playing for pride and with an eye on the upcoming Steelheads games.
Then the Power and the Brewers will take each other on with a Premiership on the line. The two teams have split their games so far, with the Brewers winning 10.3.63 to 5.6.36 in Round 2, while the Power took Round 5 4.7.31 to 2.9.21. Not only that but their combined scores on the ladder are almost identical; the Brewers have scored a mere 2 points more than the Power across their 8 games while allowing 1 less point scored against. The Power are surging into the match, having won their last 4 games. The Brewers fell to the Cascades last round, but they’ve won their games when they’ve counted most. You can count on it being a fierce contest for the trophy.
After the Grand Final, everyone will be heading to On Deck Sports Bar & Grill to celebrate. We will be recognizing players with awards from the PAFL season, as well as previewing our Steelheads season playing against other USAFL clubs. The club makes 10% off of food and drink sales from the event, so bring friends and family for dinner.
