PAFL 2015 Round 2 – Recap

PAFLResultsEmailHeader-Round2

Sunday turned on a cracking Portland day, perfect for some high quality football games.

Game 1 saw the Loggers looking to redeem themselves against a revived Ospreys unit. It was always going to be a tough ask for the Loggers without coach Luke, but they battled valiantly. The first half saw the Ospreys kick out of the blocks with a couple of early goals before the Loggers pulled it back to within one straight kick midway through the half, before the birds kicked away again. Vincent, improving every week, fought hard but the experience of Ty and Simone was showing in the midfield battle.

The second half saw the Loggers strengthened by Marto and Mike, who’s footy smarts got the first goal for the Loggers, but from then on it was all Ospreys, who broke clear to win in convincing fashion. With a strong new backline, including new players Tim and Evan, as well as a competitive effort up forward from new recruit Caleb, the Ospreys go 2-0, while the Loggers will be looking for their first win next week against the Cascades.

RESULT
Ospreys 11.6.72
Loggers 4.5.29

GOALS
Ospreys: Stewart 8, Okely 2, Elliot 1
Loggers: Blanden, Blundell, Lavella, Weinstock 1

The second game saw the reigning premier and this years flag favorite Brewers, up against a Cascades team looking for victory number 1 for the year. But even without key big man Seth, the Brewers were at their dominant best. Marto ran rampant for a game high 7 goals, while Ramzy continued his early season form, along with stalwart Bottles and the ever reliable Justin.

The Cascades battled willingly, and kicked 3 second half goals to let the comp know they are not going to roll over, but it wasn’t enough. Matt Worden continues to impress, while The evergreen John and Mike, and the consistent Simone, backing up from a strong Ospreys display, tried their hardest. It sets up an enthralling round 3 in 2 weeks time, with the 2 undefeated teams playing the 2 winless teams. Be sure to get down there for 2 cracking games on the 17th. Training will be held this week (10th).
