- Our First NWPAFL Match What a great disciplined performance from the new kids on the block, The Portland Power has arrived and on Saturday 6th December they turned the Seattle Grizzlies into Teddy Bears with an 11-2-70 to 3-1-19 pounding. It was indeed a delight to be involved in the clubs first game and what a game, as was said later, The Power played as a complete TEAM a smooth flowing unit, while the more established Grizzlies looked quite disorganized. Without any doubts I would say we won every position on the field, our defensive line of David, Linford and Scott were outstanding, their running play and aggression for the ball was over-powering for their opponents. Mark, Adrien and Steve (el capitano) ran and ran and ran their play from the center setup goal after goal after goal, that's if they weren't kicking one themselves. Then up front we had Shaun, Aaron and Jacob who were not only good forwards but more importantly better defenders, if they did ever lose possession they would not let it go too easily and held the ball in until the support arrived. Our two ladies, Kristy and Hope were put up against each other and their skills and endeavourer must have put the opposition to shame. Also at this time I would like to offer Hope the TEAM'S sympathy and best wishes after her families loss during the week. The other important part of Saturday night was the families and supporters who turned up to cheer on and become part of OUR TEAM. Doug helping out with the Goal Umpiring and Carol with her delicious Anzac Biscuits, along with boyfriends, girlfriends, wives and kids, it was a great atmosphere. With the calibre of players who were unable to make this trip all goes well for the clubs future, because with everyone available we will definitely live up to our name of The Power. |
