Portland Sockeyes – Australian Rules Women’s Team

Women’s Training

Every Sunday 1:30-3:00 pm @ Clinton City Park

2020 marks the seventh season of our women’s team – the Portland Sockeyes. Women’s footy has seen tremendous growth in the United States as well as Australia in recent years, leading to the launch of the AFL Women’s league in Australia in 2017.

The Sockeyes won consecutive USAFL Division 2 National Championships in 2015, 2016 & 2017, as well as the 2016 & 2018 Western Regional competitions. In 2015 the Sockeyes brought two players to Nationals and played with Calgary to win their first championship, while in 2016 it was players from other cities who filled in with a predominantly Sockeyes squad to once again win Division 2. In 2017 the Sockeyes went on to win a 3rd consecutive National Championship in San Diego, California while joined by players of the Philadelphia Lady Hawks.

Since 2018, the Sockeyes have fielded a full team at Nationals, qualifying them to compete in Division 1. The Sockeyes are looking to expand on their successes in 2020 and beyond, so any and all potential players are invited to come give footy a try! No experience necessary.
